Houston Public Media
Internship
I was hired under the KUHT TV-8 department of Houston Public Media, which is the PBS affiliate in Houston, Texas. My direct mentor was the producer, Tomeka Weatherspoon. I frequently got to work with the other producers in the department, Ernie Manouse and Troy Schulze, and the executive producer, Don Geraci. I occasionally had the pleasure of working with other team members from the production side, hosts and the crew members. They were Matt Brawley, Todd Hulslander, Jarrod Carroll, Fujio Watanabe, Joe Brueggeman and Shannon Harrison.
Each morning at 9:15 AM I joined the producers and executive producer for their meeting where they discussed their agenda for the day, after which I assisted anyone who needed help with any of their projects or shadowed one of them as they proceeded with their day. My work ranged from various clerical tasks, during the projects’ pre and post-production phases, to site-surveys, research and assisting with filming and recordings on and off camera.
The projects I'm most proud of are the spots (provided by Jarrod Carroll) recorded for Houston Public Media’s 88.7, playing a part on screen for a package on Arts InSight with Ernie Manouse, receiving credit for my photography used in a package on Project Row Houses, and getting an official Production Assistant credit for another Arts Insight package on the Color of Music with Tomeka Weatherspoon. All of these can prove to serve as testaments to my growth and experience due to this internship.
Airbrush with Greatness
When one of the models cancelled for this shoot, I was asked to be modeled for this feature on the amazing art of Rudy Campos for Arts Insight. It was produced and hosted by Ernie Manouse. Of course, I wouldn't say no! You can access the video above or the full article by clicking the following link:
